The Best and Worst of 2012 (plus 2013 excitement)

Well, well, well, how terrible we have been at keeping up with this blog. I make no promises to do better, as now I'm planning a wedding, but maybe Janni will...then again, she's not here now, is she :p

Alas, I thought since my last post was on the movies I anticipated and the one before that was the best and worst of 2011, I should begin this year with those I loved, hated, and couldn't be bothered with in 2013. Let us explore this wondrous world of film, shall we?

Love:
5. Looper
Last year, I listed this as one of the top five I was excited about for this year. LOVED IT. Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young Bruce Willis was outstanding. Excellent time travel film.
4. Django Unchained
Tarantino. Enough said, right? No? How about Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson. Fantastic film.
3. Moonrise Kingdom
I love Wes Anderson and I love a film where children act like adults and it's intense. Fun, good times.
2. Avengers
Joss Whedon! Superheroes! Yesssssss!
1. Lincoln
It might be because I just saw this one, but I really loved this movie. Daniel. Freaking. Day-Lewis.

Hate:
There was a surprising low number of these this year. I must have chosen better, since below there is far more that I just didn't bother with.
3. To Rome with Love
Normally, I don't think this would be this low, however I expect more from Woody Allen. I found this film boring and uninspiring.
2. American Reunion
I don't even know why I saw this. It was just as bad as I thought it would be.
1. Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2
So I took a teenage girl to go see this. It's the only reason I went. My fiance and I spent a great deal of time laughing at parts that were supposed to be dramatic and sad. Ugh...just terrible.

Not Bothered:
Most of these follow the every romantic comedy ever line, but some just looked like terrible comedies.
One for the Money
The Vow
The Dictator
What to Expect When You're Expecting
Battleship
That's My Boy
Bachelorette
Pitch Perfect

Still Need to See:
I live in a city where less good film comes. Also, some I just didn't get to the theater in time.
Bully
Sound of my Voice
Brave
Beasts of the Southern Wild
The Master
Seven Psychopaths
Hitchcock
Amour
Zero Dark Thirty

Okay, that about covers 2012. Now let's dive into the films that will be released in 2013 that I'm getting excited about!
No
Warm Bodies
The Gatekeepers
A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III
Oz: The Great and Powerful
The Great Gatsby
Now You See Me
Man of Steel
Much Ado About Nothing
The To-Do List
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
The World's End (The Edgar Wright film, not to be confused with the Judd Apatow film)

No love for Joss Whedons other masterpiece that come out this past year? Come on. It's awesome.

    Also, in regard to these:
    The Master
    Hitchcock
    Zero Dark Thirty

Meh. I don't care to watch actors I already know I like in (what I've heard) is a movie without story or progression.

Meh. After seeing that mediocre TV event depicting hitchcock, I may stick to watching the real hitchcock in 'Alfred Hitchcock presents.'

Meh. I didn't find the subject matter engaging when it happened so why should I care about it on screen?

Hitchcock well worth seeing for the acting (except Scarlett). Hope you get to see Brave and Seven Psychopaths soon.

Just thought I'd let you know.

  3. Zero Dark Thirty has awesome rotten tomatoes reviews. I'm intrigued.
