Manic Monday Movie: The Princess Bride

There are a plethora of reasons I love The Princess Bride. It has something for everyone. You want a romance? Meet Wesley and Buttercup. You want comedy? Check out the witty dialogue. You want action? They've got sword fights AND physical fights. There's even royalty and British accents. What more could you want?

Buttercup is a richer woman who has her own farmhand, Wesley. She loves to boss him around, and every time she tells him to do something, he responds with, "As you wish." Eventually she realizes that this is his way of confessing his love for her and she, in fact, loves him too. In an effort to earn some money for their life together, Wesley takes off on a ship. Unfortunately, it is attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who leaves no one alive.

After mourning the loss of her love, Buttercup becomes engaged to Prince Humperdink. Her timing, however, was terrible, as three hired men kidnap her and plan to kill her to get a war starting between them and the local kingdom of Gilder. As the kidnappers get away, their ship is followed by a man in black, who fights each of them (with sword, strength, and smarts) to win the future princess. Naturally, he turns out to be Wesley, and the two begin a journey of love and future fights for it.

So after your long, hard day, sit back, relax, and enjoy a story of true love filled with wit. It even has that kid from The Wonder Years.
